Quiz 7-2
Quiz 7-2
This score indicates a "below average tendency to play office politics," a statement with which I agree wholeheartedly. Office politics detracts from maximum efficiency and effectiveness. I detracts from making the best decisions possible. Organizations full of people playing politics are not only negative places in which to work, they aren't very productive either, and tend not be leaders in their industries. The only question where I wish my answer was different was for #16 -- I admittedly have not done nearly enough to cultivate a network of contacts. I've started looking at networking strategies in order to learn more about this and remedy this, because I recognize that as being a weakness that will hold me back. I guess the points where the quiz falls down are on Q11. Telling people what they want to hear is not good politics unless that person is a low-level manager with zero upward mobility. Most CEOs and other top people I've met have almost the opposite personality from low-level managers; they prefer direct communication. You don't impress them by telling them what you want to hear, you impress them with clear, honest communication, even if that means being blunt. So if you're playing...
Leadership Exercise 3-3 This week, maybe not my most charismatic week to be honest. There are definitely times when I can turn on the charm and be very charismatic, but this week I don't think I've excelled in this regard. I think that I should pay attention to opportunities to be charismatic because this is a skill that can be developed. Since I know that I have it in me to be
Leadership Exercise 5-3. The first leadership scenario is when a co-worker was calling in sick constantly, and it was clear from their attitude that they were not engaged. In this case, the supervisor did nothing, and it ended up affecting the morale of the group. As leader, I would have begun to build a case with this employee for termination, documenting the absences and the fact that they were clearly bogus. The
Leadership Portfolio Political tactics are essential for quality leadership. It is important to be tactful in all situations, and to understand the confounding variables that can impact communication clarity. Politics refers to skillful communications and strategic decision-making. Compromises are critical to good politics. For example, we were working with a large team of over 25 people. Each person had a clearly defined role, but there came a time when egos started
Leadership Quiz 1-1 An 82 indicates moderate readiness for a leadership role. This is a good score, albeit a love of haggling is perhaps a strange measure. With the other 1s that I scored, those are fair in that they are things people in leadership positions should be able to deal with -- areas where I can improve my leadership skills. With Quiz 1-2, a lot of those apply to me. I have
Leadership self-assessment quiz shows how I have used leadership skills in the past. I can apply what I learned from my past experiences as a leader to my current situation. I held a formal position of leadership as early as high school, when I was vice president of the student council. During this position, I made critical decisions related to important social events and worked with members of the team
The passive style is described as management by exception where employees do not receive notice for their positive contributions to the organization, but instead are paid attention by their manager only when an error or problem arises. Punishment or disciplinary action is often the medium used in this approach. Active transactional leadership uses contingent rewards. With this approach, employees are praised for their performance and may be eligible for
